Athena Best Practices
These are recommendations directly from Athena on best practices when using the Athena line.
- Shake well before use – All products are run through a 1 micron filter so they won’t clog drippers but shaking is necessary.
- Always use parts A & B in equal parts to maintain a proper mineral balance.
- DO NOT combine products in undiluted form - This renders the formulas useless.
- Store at temperatures between 45° F and 85° F. to maintain shelf life.
Rockwool
The provided Feeding Schedule is ideal for use in rockwool / Grodan. Most strains do well with lower EC but you can increase A/B dosage slightly (always in equal amounts) for heavy feeders.
Coco Coir
Inert coco can lock up initial minerals, potentially leading to deficiencies in the early stages of growth. To prevent this pre-charge the media before transplant with a higher dosage—week four Grow or Bloom from the feeding chart is usually a good target.
Recirculating/DWC
In a recirculating system, some minerals are absorbed faster than others. This leaves the nutrient solution imbalanced over time. Weekly reservoir changes to reestablish mineral balance is recommended. When topping off water levels add back all fertilizers based on the amount of water added.
Soil/Soilless
If the soil already contains fertilizers or amendments, start off by using a lower concentration (EC) of Athena Nutrients. Monitor the runoff until you see low EC levels. If your media has a lot of perlite (+30%) a higher EC can be used.
